Dear Colleagues,

Between 27-30 October 2023 in Istanbul, 18th International Turkish Orthodontic Society symposium and 7th Balkan Orthodontic Specialists Association (BAOS) congress will be held together. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of our Republic, I am happy to welcome you as the Honorary President of the symposium.

I continue my scientific journey that I started 35 years ago as a participant in the 1st Congress in 1988, chaired by Professor Filiz PERKÜN. Over the years, the awareness and importance of orthodontic treatment in society has increased with the development and diversification of treatment methods and the products used, and the adaptation of technology to our profession.

The main theme of our meetings will be interdisciplinary approaches in orthodontics. Presentations of joint studies in areas such as orthodontics and surgery, periodontology, restorative dentistry and prosthodontics will be made.

There will be a YoungTOD event and a course on October 27, and a course will be given on October 30 after the symposium. Scientific papers of valuable speakers will be presented during the sessions. Prof. Dr. Orhan OKYAY scientific presentation competition, Prof. Dr. Ayhan ENACAR case presentation competition and poster presentations will be made.

As Orhan Veli tells in the lines "I am listening to Istanbul, my eyes are closed", with you in the beautiful autumn wind; We want to make new friendships and share unforgettable moments in the lively enthusiasm, Bosphorus, Grand Bazaars, palaces and historical magical atmosphere of ancient Istanbul.

I would like to thank our president and all our friends who contributed to the organization of the symposium. XVIII. International Symposium of the Turkish Orthodontic Society is planned to be held in enchanting Istanbul between 27-30 October 2023, which also includes the 100th Birthday of the Republic of Turkey. We are also very happy that this year's scientific meeting will be held jointly with the 7th Congress of the Balkan Association of Orthodontic Specialists, of which we have been a member since 2017 as the Turkish Orthodontic Society. On this occasion, we are excited that our scientific and long-standing cultural and friendly relations with our colleagues in the Balkan Countries will be further strengthened.

This joint meeting, where the main theme of the symposium determined as “Interdisciplinary Orthodontics: Excellence through Teamwork”, will be crowned with respected invited speakers from all over the World. On behalf of the Balkan Association of Orthodontic Specialists, I would like to express my gratitude to the Executive Committee of the Turkish Orthodontic Society, scientific and organizing committee members, our invited speakers, all national and international colleagues who will participate with oral and poster presentations, sponsor companies and Symposium Organization Company.

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great honour for me to invite you to the 7th Congress of the Balkan Association of Orthodontic Specialists (BAOS) and the 18th International Symposium of the Turkish Orthodontic Society (TOS) which will be held between 27th -30th October 2023 in İstanbul. This joint meeting organized by BAOS and TOS is unique in terms of gathering orthodontists of the Balkan countries for the first time in İstanbul, furthermore giving us the opportunity to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey together.

The main topic of our scientific meeting is “Interdisciplinary Orthodontics”, which we expect will be of interest to all participants. We are aware that the number of complex orthodontic patients referred to our clinics increases day by day, and excellent results can only be achieved by teamwork and taking a holistic approach. Therefore, the focus will be on interdisciplinary treatment modalities in addition to other general topics and we will have the opportunity to listen to a number of expert keynote speakers who will provide rich scientific and clinical updates. Our scientific program will include oral and poster presentations, research and case presentation awards, as well as courses. During the symposium the Young TOS meeting will also be organised for orthodontic residents.

For the social program, we will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic with great enthusiasm during a gala dinner with the theme of the Republic Ball. At this particular time of the year, you will be able to enjoy glorious displays and sights on the Bosphorus, and the historical and cultural heritage of beautiful İstanbul.

I hope this unique joint meeting will provide an environment for improving our knowledge, establishing new friendships, and collecting fond memories. I look forward to coming together in İstanbul.
